Learning from life’s impacts is the definition of a life cycle, but when mentors help to conduct you through trials and tribulations, the impact is lessened. Because Ashlie Tyler’s personal story was woven with mentorship and guidance, she says it is her personal mission to "empower underprivileged youth to aspire towards higher education and lifelong success". Ashlie credits her present opportunities as direct reflections of her mentors’ time and dedication.

When it comes to impactful mentors she acknowledges Charlie Sposato, her former high school Principal.  To Ashlie, Mr. Sposato’s guidance to concentrate on higher education was life changing.  She says,“I eternally credit him for humbling my attitude, emphasizing the important aspects of life, and giving me the mantra ‘Courage, Discipline, and Perseverance.’”

As a 2010 graduate of Duke University, Ashlie earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology while simultaneously attaining a certificate in human development.  In addition to her studies, she joined the Duke Psychology Major’s Union, served as a mentor with The Girls’ Club, and acted as disciplinary advisor for the Office of Student Conduct. As an advisor, it was her duty to counsel and support pupils throughout the disciplinary process.

After graduation, Ashlie moved to Rapid City, South Dakota to teach the GEAR UP Honors Program, a six-week residential summer camp for underprivileged Native American students. While at camp, Ashlie lead as a residential advisor for female students while teaching ACT College Entrance Exam Prep and “College Research & Exploration” to program attendees.

Back in Boston, Ashlie began her professional career with Fidelity Investments on the Asset Management Campus Recruiting team. Her time with Fidelity peaked her interest in company recruitment. She recently pursued employment with Bain Capital, and now holds responsibilities for Ventures and Private Equity recruiting.

Ashlie continues to live by her mission and mentors through the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston.  In addition she uses her professional expertise as a resume coach for the Posse Foundation and tutors through the Steppingstone Foundation.

In the future, Ashlie plans to attend law school, study business-recruiting practices to eventually work as liaison for nonprofit organizations and fortune 500 companies in establishing internships and permanent positions for underprivileged students.
